Accounting changes and error corrections
FAR Chapter 19 · Area III · Blueprint III.A
Area III, select transactions, is 25 to 35% of FAR. It starts with a question that underlies every comparison between years: when something about the accounting changes, do you go back and redo the past, or only change the future? The Blueprint asks you to calculate the effect of a change in principle, a change in estimate and an error correction, and to work out the effect on the statements and notes. Three labels, three treatments. Getting the label right is most of the work.
