The One Big Beautiful Bill Act on REG and TCP: what is tested and when
2026-10-05 · 4 minute read · By Binod Raj Singh, CPA
Provisions with 2024 and 2025 effective dates have been testable since July 1, 2026. Later provisions follow a six month rule.
H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, was signed on July 4, 2025. It changed many parts of the Internal Revenue Code, with different effective dates. On September 18, 2025 the AICPA Board of Examiners decided how it would enter the exam.
- Provisions with effective dates in 2024 and 2025 became eligible for testing on REG and TCP on July 1, 2026. This includes items effective on enactment, for tax years beginning after December 31, 2024, and for property acquired after January 19, 2025.
- All other provisions become eligible in the calendar quarter that begins six months after the provision's effective date.
- Rules that were due to expire in 2025 before the Act was signed stayed testable only through June 30, 2026.
- Only provisions inside the REG and TCP Blueprints are tested.
Do I need to memorize the new dollar amounts?
The Blueprint says candidates are not tested on specific rates, amounts or limits that are indexed to inflation. Know how each rule works, who qualifies, what phases out and when it ends. Our notes give the 2025 figures so the examples make sense.
Where it shows up
REG: standard deduction, the temporary deductions for tips, overtime, seniors and car loan interest, the SALT cap, the child tax credit, bonus depreciation, Section 179 and the QBI deduction. TCP: planning around the same rules, plus gift and estate changes, charitable changes from 2026 and qualified small business stock.
