CPA Exam moves to a new platform in July 2027: dates to plan around

2026-10-16 · 4 minute read · By Binod Raj Singh, CPA

The exam's screens change in July 2027. Testing pauses from July 1 to 11, resumes on July 12, and score release timing shifts for a year.

In August 2026 the AICPA announced that the CPA Exam will move to a new technology platform in July 2027, and the user interface will change with it. The AICPA says the new platform is meant to improve accessibility, speed up processing and modernize the exam experience. The examples it gives of what may change are navigation, accessibility features and screen layout.

The dates the AICPA has given

Why scores will take a different path

A new screen can change how a question behaves. If you move through a question differently, or the layout changes, the question may perform differently in the statistics. So before scores are reported, the AICPA will recalibrate the questions using the answers of candidates who test after the launch. In its words, this keeps scoring "accurate, valid, and fair." For you, that means your score may arrive on a different schedule from the one you are used to.

How to plan if you test in 2027

  1. Mark the blackoutNo one can test from July 1 to July 11, 2027. If your credit window or a Notice to Schedule ends near then, plan that section for June or for later in July.
  2. Book earlyWith testing closed for eleven days, seats in the days around the blackout may be harder to get.
  3. Do not count on the old score datesRelease timing changes for 12 months after launch. If you need a score by a set date, for a job or before another section's credit runs out, leave extra room and watch the AICPA's score release page.
  4. Learn the content, not the buttonsThe Blueprints decide what is tested. Practice the skill each task names. When the AICPA publishes more about the new platform, take time to get used to the new screens before exam day.

What the announcement does not say

The AICPA has not yet described the specific screen changes or published the new score release dates. We will update this article when it does. Until then, treat anything more detailed as a guess.
